MALTA HEALTH NETWORK 15TH ANNIVERSARY

November 2022

On the 16th November MHN celebrated the 15 years since starting off as an umbrella organisation and also as non governmental organisation.

This anniversary was commemorated by a short conference with an overview of the work done by MHN and projects the Network has been involved in. Patient Empowerment Training sessions which MHN will be holding in January 2023 was also launched. This is funded by the Malta Council for Voluntary Sector through the Training Initiative Scheme.

For this event MHN was honored with the presence of Hon. Julia Farrugia Portelli, Minister for inclusion, Voluntary Organisation and consumer rights, and also with the presence of the Shadow Minister for Health Hon Dr. Stephen Spiteri.

MHN Board meets with  Hon. Mr. Chris Fearne, Deputy Prim Minister and Minister for Health

10th November 2022

On the occasion of MHN 15 years anniversary MHN had a cordial meeting with Hon. Mr. Chris Fearne, Deputy Prim Minister and Minister for Health where as MHN we discussed the importance of having patient representation in health boards and committees. We also discussed other health related issues. Also during the meeting Hon. Mr. Chris Fearne was invited to the launch of patient empowerment training and also to commemorate the 15 years anniversary of MHN, event being held 18th November 2022.

MHN Board meets with  Hon. Dr. Stephen Spiteri, Shadow Minister for Health

9th November 2022

For the celebrations for the 15 years anniversary of MHN, meetings were held with Policy makers to reach out and be a better voice the patient.  During meeting held with Hon.  Dr. Stephen Spiteri several issues were discussed especially the importance of having patient representation in health committees and health boards. Also during  this meeting Hon. Dr. Stephen Spiteri was invited to the launch of patient empowerment training and also to commemorate the 15 years anniversary of MHN, event being held on the 18th November 2022.

MCAST Freshers week

October 2022

Malta Health Network has been invited by MCAST Staff to participate in their fresher’s week . MHN had a stand and mainly this stand was open every day from the 10th October till the 13th October in the morning. Invitation has also been sent to our member organistions to see if they are interested in participating in the freshers week through our stand. Mainly there were 4  organisations who were interested and these are Alliance for Rare Disease, ARAM Malta, Caritas Epilepsy Malta and Europa Donna. The enthusiasm from the students was very encouraging to us and some students also showed intererest in the work that we do. Also students approached us to check if they can do some voluntary work hours with us.

MHN board members met Hon. Julia Farrugia Portelli2, Minister for Inclusion, Voluntary Organisations and Consumer Rights (MIVC). During this meeting it was discussed the work that MHN does and what we mainly focus on. Also during this meeting Hon. Farruria Portelli was invited to the launch of patient empowerment training and also to commemorate the 15 years anniversary of MHN, event being held in November 2022.

This meeting was attended Gertrude Buttigieg, Chris Vella and George Sultana.

MHN Board meets new Health Commisioner

September 2022

Representatives of MHN board met the newly appointed Commissioner for Health in the Office of the Ombudsman (Malta) Prof. Ray Galea  and outgoing Commissioner  Mr. Charles Messina. MHN thanked Mr Messina for his 61yrs of service the the Maltese Society with 51yrs in the Health Services Malta and the last 10 years as Commissioner for Health. Whilst Congratulating Prof. Galea for his new position, MHN board thanked Prof Galea for 15 yrs of voluntary work within MHN including the last 8yrs as vice chairperson.

Gertrude Buttigieg (Chairperson) gave an overview of the work that MHN does and together with Prof Galea discussed of ways of how both entities can collaborate in increasing Patient Empowerment and awareness of Patients’ Rights in Malta. MHN board invited The Commissioner for Health to participate in our training sessions by giving a talk about the Office of Commissioner for health to participants of the new Training Programme ‘Patient Empowerment’ supported by Training Initiative Support Funds. Dates of training to be announced shortly.

MHN AGM 

28.02.2022

On 28th February 2022, MHN held it’s Annual General Meeting for year closing December 2021.

Annual report and financial reports were presented and approved.

Those present approved a Position Paper which is to be disseminated to the local authorities with main concerns which were brought forward by Members over the past months.

Malta Health Network Board meets the Health Committee of Parliament

February 2022

On Wednesday 9th February 2022, Gertrude  Buttigieg (Chairperson), Prof Ray Galea (Vice-Chairperson) and Mr Mark Mallia (Board Member) as representatives of the Malta Health Network,   had a meeting with The Parliament Health Committee where an overview of the work of MHN for the past 15 years was discussed. The Committee was also presented with a copy of Position Paper drawn by MHN following a consultation with members about the Access of medicines and Services in Malta and other issues that our member organisations encounter. MHN presented a copy of the Proceedings of the Societal Impact of Pain Symposium 2017 which was hosted in Malta.
